IANC was founded by Jerry Richmond, formerly with the Cascade Small Business Development Center, almost five years ago as a loose group of inventors who met to share experience, knowledge, and resources in order to advance their own ideas and business goals.

Early on, a pair of fellow sophisticates, the late  James Joseph De Lang, a former aerospace engineer and World War II veteran; and Allan Swain, an electronics engineer and educational board member, joined the group.  James, and Allan realized a larger vision: A need to improve opportunity in the North State for normal business-minded people to achieve their goals in order to foster economic growth in largely rural Northern California.

James and Allan

Jim and Al set out to incorporate the group in early 2002 and were successful in getting our group recognized as a 501 C(3) corporation and registered charitable trust.  At first, we focused on helping inventors achieve their goals through meetings, networking, and facilitating their progress by providing manufacture and prototyping facilities and a place to develop ideas.  We evolved more towards providing education and aggregation of resources so people could achieve much on their own before using professional services.

James De Lang

Jim De Lang our former president, was one of our most influential and capable members.  He helped us secure a contract with the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) for educating folks about using recycled materials in manufacturing.  That activity has sponsored a variety of new products and ideas using recycled rubber, plastic, and paper products.

The organization further evolved with the addition of Martin Boys (current president) to the board.  Martin brought patent preparation experience to the group.  Other instrumental individuals helping our group include Jason Caulkins (CEO Cenatek), who is also involved with the Shasta Technology Association and Steven Boyd former CIWMB liaison who has helped us in many ways to promote new ideas and business.
